Nike Air Max 95

The Nike Air Max 95 is a classic running shoe with a full-length Air-Sole unit for cushioning, comfort, and support. It features a durable leather upper for flexibility and visibility in low-light conditions. The original Air Max 95 was created by Tinker Hatfield in 1995 as the first shoe to feature visible Air technology; this version has been updated with premium materials like leather and suede but still remains its iconic look.

OG colorway

Nike has released the famous neon Air Max 95 colorway at least 10 times over the last 20 years. After its original 1995 appearance, it reappeared in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2003, 2006, 2008, and 2012. After the 2012 release, the PSI detail vanished and the air unit became significantly smaller than before. On the 2015 editions of this shoe, the bubble at the heel is barely visible from the side.

First resell sneaker

In 1996, the Japanese demand for deadstock sneakers had become global news as American companies tried to supply the demand. Big companies started putting out calls for people to search their attics for old shoes. With so much demand for the Air Max 95, they even started asking for prices of $1,500. Even though the Air Max 95 was the moneymaker, others stated that the Air Jordan 11, and Air Max 97 were more in demand. This resulted in some crazy asking prices. Some accounts of the reselling market in Tokyo threw wild figures like $1,000-$3,000 for original colorways.

Back to normal

By 1998, as the hype died down in favor of other designs, Air Max 95s in classic colors were advertised at twice the price of newer models such as Air Max 98; by 1999, as hype cooled globally, Japan’s sneaker boom subsided while western markets entered a hype age when it came to sports footwear.

Prices of the Air Max 95

The Nike Air Max 95 sneaker was never a cheap shoe, but if you knew an employee well or could avoid additional taxes, there was room to maneuver around the price. Because the $140 price tag was brutal. Nowadays it’s even more. The current price for the Air Max 95 is $170 which is a price difference of $30 in 20 years. In the UK, the shoe rose in price from £99 in 1995 to a steady £110 for years, which is why it’s now nicknamed the “110”.
