Air Jordan 11
Air Jordan 11
The Air Jordan 11 was first released in 1995 as Michael Jordan’s 11th signature sneaker. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the shoe featured patent leather and carbon fiber in addition to cordura nylon. The original mid-cut and low-cut IE colorways were released from 1995-1996. The sneaker returned in 2000 for its first retro run and debut of the patent leather low-top version. The Air Jordan 11 continues to be one of the most popular Air Jordans of all time, with many retro releases in its vast catalog of colorways.
It almost didn’t happen
While Nike planned to discontinue Michael Jordan’s shoe line after his retirement from the NBA in 1993, designer Tinker Hatfield had other plans. Hatfield continued working on the Air Jordan 11 in hopes that MJ would one day return to the court—a gamble that paid off handsomely for him.
Air Jordan 11 Low
The Jordan 11 Low IE broke away from the traditional design of previous Air Jordans. The sneaker’s signature patent and nylon were replaced with elephant print and mesh. This decision proved to be polarizing among fans. If you want to strive away from the standard Jordan 1 Low, the Air Jordan 11 Low is something you might want to consider as a new pair in your sneaker rotation.
Holiday releases
After the release of the “Bred” Air Jordan 11 as part of a Countdown Pack alongside the “Taxi” Jordan 12 in December 2008, holiday Air Jordan 11 releases became a standard for the brand. Since 2009’s “Space Jam” Retro, Jordan 11’s has become synonymous with holiday sneaker culture. And till this day we see every year a retro Jordan 11.
