Air Jordan 2
Air Jordan 2
The Air Jordan 2, released in November of 1986, was the predecessor to the Air Jordan 1 released just a year earlier, having amounted to massive success. Considered one of the most polarizing Air Jordan sneakers models, the Air Jordan 2 was a pivotal moment in time, and nobody can deny how important the shoe was in Michael Jordan’s basketball career. Leap of faith
Nike took a giant risk by radically adjusting the Air Jordan design after its first shoe’s massive success. The Air Jordan 2 was a critical milestone for the brand and was on MJ’s feet while he continued to crush NBA records. With the re-release of Air Jordan 2 ‘Chicago,’ let’s take a look back at this iconic sneaker that threw a wrench in what we knew about basketball sneakers at the time. Thanks to Nike’s efforts, putting a spin on footwear set the stage for future risk-taking along with its entire brand including the Jordan Brand.
Low and High tops
With the Air Jordan 2, we also see 2 variants of the sneaker with high and low tops, just as with the Air Jordan 1. This sneaker was released after the Air Jordan 1 was a big success. They did change a lot, but people still loved the sneaker and how good it was for basketball at the time of the first release. Ever tried to hoop in these Air Jordan 2s?
The intention of the Air Jordan 2
Nike’s intention was to create an exclusive sneaker with high-quality materials, and they did just that by implementing premium leather at the upper for superior support. No break-in was required with the Air Jordan 2s, and its faux lizard skin added a further dimension to the silhouette. The sneaker arrived in mostly white mid-cut and white low-cut colorways. Its speed lacing system allows for quick and even adjustment, while its extended polyurethane heel counter provided improvised stability during maneuvers the basketball court required. Additionally, Nike Air units at the heel and signature polyurethane midsole provided maximum cushioning.
Air Jordan 2 rumor
Rumor has it those original models were destroyed so that retro versions could begin to be released in 1995. These retro silhouettes consisted of mid-top and low-top versions, but weren’t perfect matches of the originals; their additional colorways caught eyes of sneaker enthusiasts worldwide. The Air Jordan 2 Retro was released in colorways such as the “Chicago”, “Grey Fog”, “UNC”, “Gym Red,” “Detroit” and many more. Alongside its notable colorways, the silhouette has also presented collaborations such as Off-White x Air Jordan, A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan, and Maison Château Rouge x Air Jordan.
