The design of the Air Jordan 4
The Jordan 4 was released in 1989 and was the second shoe designed by Tinker Hatfield. It wasn’t a huge departure from the Air Jordan 3 when it comes to design, but it made additions that make it one of the more beloved in the series. The Jumpman logo had the word “Flight” added right below it; nubuck materials had been introduced to the sneaker world for the first time; mesh components were added for increased breathability; and plastic was used in multiple areas for added support.
The four OG colorways
In 1989, Tinker Hatfield designed four colorways for the Air Jordan 4: the “Fire Red,” “Black/Cement Grey,” “Off White/Military Blue,” and “White/Black” editions. The first three were released in February 1989 during that year’s NBA All-Star Game in Houston. Even though these were released back then, there is still plenty of heat sitting in the vault. The unreleased Air Jordan 4 “Olive/Olive Suede” and “Black/Red” are no doubt burning holes in shoeboxes somewhere in the Jumpman archive!
